Updated story with comments from Sue Gabriel

Just heard back from Sue Gabriel after I posted the story. Here are her comments:

“It’s just been an amazing opportunity to steward this organization,” she said. “It’s been an absolute honor. I will remain a strong supporter of the organization from the sidelines from here moving forward because the need is just huge right now and the community needs to make sure the mission of Bootstraps continues on.”

Gabriel declined to comment on why she is leaving.

“The focus is that the work here is super important. There’s an amazing team here that are poised to continue this great work.”

“The board and I decided that a transition that is really well planned and controlled and an opportunity for some space between me and another long-term executive director made sense. It just makes sense for the organization to have an opportunity to reset so that somebody can come in and be an effective leader. It’s been an absolutely positive honor to be the leader of this organization for almost 17 years.”
